Compassionate – Personalised – Meaningul – Healing

Supporting you before, during and after your pet loss

As a pet end-of-life doula I offer non-medical, emotional, and practical support. I walk by your side and tailor my service to your situation and needs. I can assist you to reach informed decisions, provide practical support and simply “be there” throughout the process to give you peace of mind during a stressful and emotional time.

Losing a beloved pet is one of the most heart-wrenching experiences one can face. The overwhelming grief and the challenging decisions that accompany it can feel insurmountable.  Often we are faced with difficult decisions and feel unsure about the options available or lack compassionate support.

I provide personalised support and work alongside your trusted vet, whether….

  • you are preparing for the inevitable due to your pet’s terminal illness or age
  • you would benefit from an end-of-life plan and are faced with the difficult questions
  • you look for emotional support and counselling throughout your grieving journey
  • you would like to conduct a memorial service to farewell your pet companion

Based in Sydney’s Inner West we can meet on-line, at my home office or I can visit you at your home. We can also just go for a walk and talk in a park if you prefer an informal conversation.

Emotional Support – Before, during and after

My purpose is to support you and  help ensure that your pet’s final moments are filled with love, dignity and respect.

It’s completely normal to feel overwhelmed, helpless and deeply saddened by the impending loss of a beloved pet. And it is ok to ask for help. You may feel uncertain about your situation and sense some judgement and stigma attached to openly share and accept our emotions and tears. Let me assure you that you are part of a growing community of devoted pet loving people. I understand the deep bond between you and your pet. I am here to listen, offer guidance and help you navigate the emotional turmoil.

Practical Support

I can provide non-medical, emotional, and practical assistance such as co-ordinating veterinary care or making end-of-life arrangement so that you and your pet are supported throughout this difficult journey.

End-of-Life Planning

I can help you to make the best possible choices for the big questions such as euthanasia, cremation or burial. As a memorial service celebrant I can conduct a personlised ceremony to  honor your pet’s life.

Personalised Aftercare

After your pet left you, grief is felt in different ways and timeframes. I can continue to support you or family members during the initial stages and, if needed, connect you with the right resources.

How I can support you moment by moment

Facing the impending loss of a beloved pet companion brings a flood of difficult questions and decisions. There is so much to consider, often it is road we never travelled before, or we want to avoid repeating negative experiences in the past that left us with bad memories or guilt. There are many moments that challenge us in different ways:

Receiving the News
When you first receive the heart-wrenching news from the vet that your pet’s end-of-life is approaching, the emotions can be overwhelming. I can support you during this time and help to plan and prepare for the time ahead.

Natural Death vs. Euthanasia
Deciding between allowing your pet to pass naturally or opting for euthanasia is incredibly difficult and a decision that can stay for a long time with you. We can discuss the implication of both options to help you making the right choice for you, your loved ones and your pet.

Choosing the right Euthanasia option
Finding the right vet for the euthanasia process, whether at home or in a clinic, is crucial. It can be confusing when you don’t know the right questions to ask, as there are many unknowns if you have not experienced it before.

Support During Euthanasia
Deciding whether to be present during euthanasia is a deeply personal choice. There is no right or wrong. I support either decision, and can accompany and support you during the last moments, or even stay with your pet if you prefer not to be present.

Organising Cremation
Choosing and arranging dignified after-care, your pet’s cremation and return of the ashes can be a confusing and very emotional task. I can support you with the planning processes and even return the ashes when the time is right for you.

Memorial Service Celebrant
Honouring your pet’s life with a personalised memorial service is an age old ritual that helps ease our grieving process, brings comfort and garners support. As a qualified service celebrant I can design and conduct your pet’s last farewell.

Informing Friends and Family
Telling friends and family about your pet’s passing can be painful. I can help with advice on how to share this news in a way that is right for you and also deal appropriately with well-meaning but ill suited advice from people you may not understand how you feel.

Grief Journey
Grieving the loss of a pet is a unique and deeply personal journey. There are no timeframes, and it is near impossible to know what to expect. It is normal to experience different stages of grief for our pet loss, just as we do for humans.
